Project Type

Community Housing

Master Plan

Location

Showers Street, Preston

The current method of urban sprawl is primarily motivated by profit, and characterised by two building types, central core towers and detached houses - designed only to fit in as many as possible. This project explores an integration of these typologies providing access to community, nature and social amenity—a blend of public, shared, private, and secluded spaces accessible without compromise.

The apartment buildings are organised around a very large circulation core that is open to the sky provides light through the entire building. Vestibules are also included at entrances add extra layers of threshold to the units to indicate different levels of privacy. This also means that there is only so many people that you share your immediate space with which should encourage more connection between neighbours. The circulation space can even act as a place to pause.

The mixture of unit types to accommodate different types of households is also an important aspect. The pinwheel type plan means most apartments have double aspect and all have private balconies.

Reflective Journal

This website was created for free using WIX, it is a tool I was encouraged to use during my time at university and was a site that I built up over the course of my undergraduate degree. I am currently in the process of creating a new website portfolio using a different hosting platform that I am keen to share.

I do not align myself with WIX or its views on the war in Gaza and the genocide of the Palestinian people.
